Experience the "Magic of the Maldives" by liveaboard on a special Project Shark itinerary!
Cruising through the atolls of the Maldives during the peak season, we'll seek out the best diving this amazing archipelago has to offer. Three daytime dives (with a night dive offered some nights) are interspersed with a desert island BBQ and cruising through one of the most beautiful island landscapes on the planet.
Our special itinerary ten-night cruise allows us to explore multiple islands in this archipelago you may have always dreamed of visiting. Diving takes place from a large, separate "dhoni", maximizing space on board the M/V blueVoyager, as well as keeping it dry. The feel is more like a yacht than a dive boat.
This special Project Shark itinerary is hosted by marine scientist Dr. Elke Bojanowski, with whom we've previously had the pleasure of diving in the Red Sea. In addition to shark sightings, the Maldives always offers the possibility of whale sharks and multiple mantas. While such encounters are never guaranteed, the possibility of them is part of the "Magic of the Maldives". The topside scenery and schools of beautiful reef fish unique to the Indian Ocean will offer plenty to enchant you, with hope for icing on the cake.
Divers who've previously visited Maldives and dived Ari Atoll and the central islands will love this itinerary if you enjoyed the pass dives with hook-in on the eastern side of the archipelago at South Male and Vaavu/Felidhu atolls, which we will also visit.
This is NOT beginner diving! The best dives with the most shark action are deep (right up to the 30 m/99 ft maximum allowed in Maldives) and in swift incoming current in the channels ("kandu" in Maldivian). You'll need a reef hook, calm nerves, and the ability to deploy an SMB from your safety stop.
Don't miss your opportunity to explore the Maldives' best diving in the peak season in the company of gay divers and our friends on board a beautiful sailing yacht. Join us to experience Indian Ocean diving in February 2020!

Maldives is a moderate Muslim country. Visitors who drink alcohol will find it available for tourists, but at a higher cost and more limited selection than most diving destinations. No tourist may bring alcohol into the country. Hard liquor and additional beer and wine may only be purchased from the ship's bar, so please plan accordingly if you do care to drink.

From North America most travelers will begin travel on February 14 or 15. Plan to arrive no later than the morning of February 16 to connect to the inter-island flight to Kooddoo (GKK), one of the islands of the Huvadhoo Atoll in the south. There are a number of inexpensive hotels right on the airport island of Hulhumale if you choose to arrive a day early. Purchase your Inter-island flight on Maldivian - the non-stop at 11 am from Male to Kooddoo on February 16 is a good option. The afternoon flight works as well.
Emirates offers non-stop service to Dubai from San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Dallas, Houston, New York and Toronto, with continuing service from Dubai on to Male (MLE), capital of the Maldives. Qatar Airways offers good fares as well from gateways such as Washington-Dulles, Boston, JFK, Montreal and Houston Intercontinental.
For frequent flyers on United Airlines, it's probably worth a call to United reservations to book flights that include Star Alliance partner airlines such as Turkish Airlines or Singapore Airlines.
Singapore Airlines flies to Male through Singapore. If your flight arrives at night, plan to arrive on February 15 and stay at the Hulhule Island Hotel next to the airport, or another cheaper hotel on Hulhumale island such as Fern Boquete Inn or many others.
Oneworld/American Airlines frequent flyers take note: Cathay Pacific now offers connecting service to Male via Hong Kong.
Numerous airlines and charter flights depart from Europe to Male, including British Airways, departing London Gatwick (LGW) on Friday, February 14 and returning on Thursday, February 27.
We'll depart the vessel at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2020. Please schedule your flight home for that morning or plan to book a day room at Hulhule or in Male.
