Explore the exotic islands of India’s Andaman Sea on our charter of M/Y Panunee!
Located between India and Burma in the Andaman Sea, this extensive archipelago offers a rare opportunity to experience tropical islands and reefs in pristine condition. There is almost no commercial fishing, resulting in unusually abundant fish populations, including schooling species like bumphead parrotfish, trevallies and barracuda. Big animals such as giant sweetlips, Napoleon wrasse and dog-tooth tuna are also encountered frequently, as are mantas. Other highlights may include giant grouper and mobulas (devil rays), sometimes in schools of 30 or more!
This region is also home to endemics like the neon-blue Andaman damselfish, distinctively patterned Andaman sweetlips, and a newly discovered dottyback species that is found nowhere else in the world. Another iconic fish is the beautiful Indian spine-cheek anemonefish, whose vertical bands are brilliant yellow instead of typical white or gray. The Andaman Islands are also home to some interesting invertebrates, including colorful trapeze crabs, wire-coral shrimp, bobtail squid and various nudibranchs.
A seven-night luxury train tour of India on board the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels will be offered before the liveaboard. This is the most comfortable way to visit the Taj Mahal, Jaipur, Ranthambore National Park, the holy Ganges and much more.
