Resorts in Port Vila on the main island of Efate have reopened. The island of Espiritu Santo, home to the famous wreck of the S.S. Coolidge and Million Dollar Point, was fortunately spared entirely from the storm. From North America, Vanuatu is most easily reached via Fiji, an easy overnight flight from LAX, so your trip begins with six nights at the beautiful Wananavu Resort, diving four days in the amazing Bligh Waters. You'll quickly see why Fiji is known as the "Soft Coral Capital of the World."
From Fiji, your adventure continues to Vanuatu, beginning in the capital of Port Vila. From there it's on to Espiritu Santo, the island that inspired James Michener's Tales of the South Pacific. "Santo," as it's affectionately known, is a place lost in time where villagers in traditional dress still wander into town to trade fish and vegetables. Here you'll dive the incredible WW II wreck dives of the former luxury liner turned troop carrier, S.S. President Coolidge, and Million Dollar Point, where the U.S. Armed Forces dumped most of their equipment at the end of the war, along with pristine reefs.
